This year, the theme for World Mental Health Day is ‘mental health in an unequal world’ and for Red Homes Healthcare, we have seen how Covid-19 has impacted our homes, our residents, and our staff.

We have shown resilience throughout the pandemic and done all we can to reduce feelings of isolation, loneliness and planned exciting activities for our residents.
World Mental Health Day (WMHD) takes place each year on 10th October and is widely spoken about on social media, through blogs and even in news articles. The first World Mental Health Day began in 1992 and was created by the World Federation for Mental Health by the then Deputy Secretary General, Richard Hunter.
Red Homes Healthcare puts the health, safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff at the heart of everything we do, and we know how important it is to take care of everyone’s individual mental health. Earlier this year, we launched our very own campaign to highlight the importance of stress awareness and we encouraged our staff to take part in 30 days’ worth of wellbeing activities. As we’ve said many times before, we know how much the pandemic has impacted us all and as a Group, we want to ensure people dedicate some time to selfcare.

By getting to know an individual on a first name basis rather than by their diagnosis, Red Homes Healthcare staff can concentrate on what people can do rather than what they can no longer do. Throughout all of our homes, our dedicated teams ensure everyone is kept active, motivated and engaged in a plethora of different activities. We pride ourselves on offering inclusive activities which are not only good for their mental health but their physical health too. We have seen the advantages our activities have had on everyone living and working at any of our three homes.
Residents have been extremely active and regularly entertained throughout these unprecedented times which Covid-19 has brought upon us. We will continue to support residents with their hobbies and interests which we know has benefited them in many ways. Here’s just one of the countless examples of how our homes are keeping residents engaged not only with the local community but with their memories. We are seeing lots of excited faces which brings us a great deal of joy.
