Red Roofs hosts its Annual Summer Fete with Live Entertainment from Jayne Darling

Red Roofs Residential Care Home held its annual Summer Fete on Friday 10th September featuring live entertainment from swing and jazz singer, Jayne Darling. The event was held to raise funds for future activities and any additional facilities needed for any of these endeavours.

We are extremely pleased for the team as they managed to raise a total of £147 for the home. Those attending had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets and a number of people left the event with well-received prizes. Thank you for supporting Red Roofs!

The support from local businesses has been absolutely incredible. The home was able to offer various stalls, including tea and coffee which were sponsored by Sainsbury’s Balderton. Those who purchased raffle tickets were lucky enough to be in with a chance of winning some fantastic prizes which included a Farmfoods voucher, a family meal deal from Fish King, a massage from Newark Beauty Rooms as well as a voucher from Riverside Ice Cream Parlour and a number of generous donations from Tesco Balderton.

Red Roofs would also like to say a special thanks to Bakkavor for baking and donating cakes for the team to sell as well as support from Father Michael from Holy Trinity Church – he kindly organised the loan of the tables at last minute for the fete.

Trish Smith, general manager at Red Roofs Residential Care Home said:

“We were delighted to be able to hold our Summer Fete on Friday afternoon, it was an incredible day full of laughter, smiles and dancing. We missed hosting it last year so this year we wanted to make it even bigger and better than previous years. It’s also a great opportunity for us to bring our residents and the local Newark community together.”

“I have an incredible team behind me and those not working on the day, came along to the event and spent the afternoon singing and dancing with residents. The staff at Red Roofs devoted their time to planning this event and I am so proud of what they achieved. The residents and their family members had a great time.”

“With the town’s support, we were able to make the Summer Fete a great success. I’d also like to say a huge thank you to all of the local businesses that donated raffle prizes, bouquets of flowers and made cakes for us to sell.”

Jayne Darling, care home singer said:

“Music can calm, reduce anxiety, bring back memories and stimulate the brain – I have seen patients with dementia suddenly remember all the words to a song from 60 or 70 years ago. This was the case when I sang at Red Roofs. No matter how many times I do this, it always brings me so much joy to see this happen.”

“Music is such an important part of well-being and it’s fantastic news that organisations are slowly and safely being able to introduce live entertainment back into their homes.”

Red Homes Making Moments that Matter when Memories Fade

In addition to the fantastic stalls and raffle, Jayne Darling sang all of the classics and demonstrated her passion for 1940s and 1950s music. She gave everyone the chance to sing, dance and tap their feet to all of their vintage favourites. We are so pleased we have links with fantastic entertainers like Jayne, such events really do improve our resident’s engagement and morale. We can’t wait to hold another event!
