Here at Red Homes Healthcare Group, we love sport! It is great to get our residents and staff moving, as we all know, the benefits of exercise can be so positive for our mental health and wellbeing.

The good thing about the summer is that as well as the UK’s weather getting sunnier and warmer (for the most part!), there is also a host of summer sport to enjoy.
This July in particular sees a whole range of exciting spectacles coming up, for everyone to get excited about…
Wimbledon Tennis Championships
Is there anything more British than tennis at Wimbledon? We love watching the sport, as do many of our residents. Many have been watching for years, and have seen a host of legends from McEnroe, to Navratilova and Federer to Williams, play on the iconic grass courts. This year, Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek are favourites to win the men’s and women’s tournaments, respectively.
Sir Andy Murray has made a return from injury, and will be hoping to replicate his success from earlier in his career. 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu is also a home favourite, and will be hoping to bounce back from her own recent injuries to give us all something to smile about. Whatever happens, we’ll be watching with our strawberries and cream, just no rain please!
UEFA Women’s European Championship 2022
We enjoyed watching the men’s England football team reach the final of Euro 2020 last year, and this summer it’s the turn of the Lionesses in the women’s equivalent, which takes place in England this year! Everyone at Red Homes hopes that the women can go one step further and win a tournament.
Euro 2022 starts on July 6th, with England playing Austria. We’ll be cheering them on and getting patriotic at all of our homes!

British Grand Prix
Yes, it’s time for the fast and furious Formula One cars to take to the illustrious Silverstone racetrack. British legend Lewis Hamilton narrowly lost out to Dutchman Max Verstappen in their intense battle for the 2021 F1 Championship. While Lewis’ Mercedes team have been slower this year, he always puts on a show for the British fans, so who knows what could happen.
Many of our residents love the sights and sounds of the speedy racecars, so we’re sure to be tuning in on 3rd July to watch an eventful race!
2022 Commonwealth Games
It’s time to bring the 72 Commonwealth nations expected to take part together for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Taking place just down the road in Birmingham, the motto for these Games is “Games For Everyone”, and with over FIVE THOUSAND athletes taking part in over 280 events across 20 sports, that is clearly the case!
With lots of events being televised by the BBC, this is always the perfect time to tune in and discover a new favourite sport – which is what we’ll be doing between 28th July and 8th August.
At Red Homes, alongside all the sporting spectacles listed above, we’ll be keeping active as normal, with our own group activities. Group activities are a large part of how our residents interact with one another and our staff. They are designed to allow residents to get valuable social time and have great fun together, it helps bring people together, which is exactly what we want our residents and staff to do.
