On Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd December the Red Homes team decided to dress up and unleash their inner elf to spread Christmas cheer across the Group.
Every year we raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society to support those affected by dementia and their families too. It’s a cause close to our hearts as we’re working with people living with dementia every single day.
What is dementia?
The word ‘dementia’ can describe a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem solving or language. These changes often start small at the beginning but for someone living with dementia, they can become severe enough to affect daily life which may require round the clock care.
Our facilities
We have seen and worked with different types of dementia and have adapted our homes to meet the needs of our residents. Red Rose Care Community in Farndon and Red Court Care Community in Grantham have fantastic facilities to ensure your loved ones will be safe when residing with us. Our residents are cared for by the most professional and highly skilled teams.
If you haven’t visited Red Rose Care Community, you might not know about their ‘Memory Suite’ which was created to make those living with dementia feel at ease. It’s a beautifully decorated part of the home and has been designed to be a very inclusive environment. For example, as residents walk around the corridors, they will come across items which may trigger past memories and encourage conversation.
Elf Day
The day was spent elfing around with mince pies, cakes and singing classic Christmas songs with the residents. It was a really special day and we’re thrilled with the money raised by staff and family members; your generosity always blows us away. Your donations will help the Alzheimer’s Society continue their fantastic work in finding a cure for the disease as well as providing telephone support to those living with dementia.

We celebrated Elf Day on Thursday 2nd December as we’ve got lots of Christmas activities planned throughout the month and we can’t wait to get started. I was delighted with the elf outfits; everyone really went all out, and the enthusiasm lasted all day. Care can be such a fascinating career to work in – yes it can be difficult but moments like these are the ones you truly remember – everyone coming together to make a difference.
Raising awareness for Alzheimer’s is something we’re keen to do, and our team regularly partakes in care courses, so they are fully aware of the standard we have set to maintain our high-quality care that we pride ourselves on. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part on Thursday, you really did Red Rose proud.”
