Moving into a care home can be a difficult time both for the person moving and their family. It is a big change and settling in can be difficult.

At Red Homes Healthcare we want our residents to feel at home from the day they arrive, so we have lots of support and help to make your transition easier. If you, or a member of your family, are making the move into one of our home settings, why not find out more about how we can help you make the transition as smooth as possible.
No rush to decide
We understand that moving into a care home is a big decision. You probably have lots of questions and it is hard to know what it is really going to be like before you move in, that is why we offer potential residents the chance to experience the care home facilities and environment first.
Day care is the perfect way to see whether Red Homes Healthcare is for you. Come and meet the residents have a look round and see what life is actually like. There is no need to rush your decision come as many times as you want until you feel comfortable and ready to make that transition. We want you to feel happy and comfortable that Red Homes Healthcare is the right decision for you.
Creating a home from home
If you do decide to move in, then the first thing we do is encourage residents to bring pictures for their walls and decorate their rooms with familiar items. Your room is your space, and we want you to personalise it in your own way so that you feel comfortable.
Familiarity and a sense of belonging is even more important for those with dementia. This is why in some areas each of the residents’ doors to their rooms are uniquely decorated to look like the front door of a home. It means the corridors look like streets with each front door personal to the resident rather than a standard room door.
Whether it is furniture, curtains, décor or pictures we want each resident to make their space as unique and special as they are.
A Red Homes welcome
Every resident that joins us receives a comprehensive welcome pack on arrival. This details all the information you might need along with important telephone numbers and contact details. We understand that there will be a lot of information to take in so we find the welcome pack is a handy way to keep all those details together so that you can continually refer back to these details and have useful information at every stage of your journey. For any other queries we also make sure that you have contact details for our friendly team who are always on hand to help you out with regular daily check ins to make sure that everything is ok.

A caring hand from the very first day
By agreeing resident care plans before you move in we are able to make sure that your daily routine and care plan start from the very first day. No lengthy transitions, the perfect level of personalised care from the very first moment. We find this consistency and dignity in care helps to create familiarity and means residents get the Red Homes welcome from the very first day.
Getting to know each individual so all our activities and care are personalised
At Red Homes we are committed to delivering personalised care which is tailored to the individual. Within the first week of moving in one of our team will work with you to create a life history booklet. This allows us to find out more about the individuals in our care from their likes and interests to favourite foods, past careers and families. By understanding the individual, who they are, what they like and their life achievements we can help make sure that we tailor the care we offer.
Our activities co-ordinators work hard to deliver a program of activities which cover all our residents’ interests. From days out and sports to quieter activities, crafts or gardening, we use the life history booklets to make sure that we offer a variety of activities that provide something for everyone. If there are individuals with particular interests, we also look to bring those out to help share stories and experiences. For example, we arranged for a local biking club to bring some motorbikes into one of our homes for a resident who had a lifelong passion for motorbikes, pony days have helped past riders to reminisce and spend quality time talking about their past experiences and knowledge of horse care, and keen bakers have helped share recipes and tips with fellow residents.
Everything we do is about helping each individual to feel at home and share their passions and lives with us.
Regular reviews
Most importantly we appreciate we cannot do this alone and we are very grateful for all the support and feedback we receive from families and residents. At each of our homes we have regular resident and family meetings to discuss upcoming ideas and look at ways we can continually improve our offer here at Red Homes Healthcare.
We are very aware that this is our residents’ home and we are there to help so our regular meetings give families and residents an opportunity to voice any concerns or ideas so that we can provide the very best home possible.
If you, or a family member are looking to make the first step into a care home then why not talk to our friendly team. Whether Red Homes Healthcare is right for you now or not we would love to help share our experience and knowledge to make that journey easier for you when you do decide to transition.
Why not book a tour or contact one of the team who will be happy to answer your queries.
