Cake, Sun, Costumes and…Snow! Here’s what our Homes got up to in March

March has been a busy month at Red Homes Healthcare, with lots of activities and celebrated events within our homes. We thought we’d let you know what we have been up to across Red Court Care Community, Red Rose Care Community and Red Roofs Residential Care Home.

Red Homes Pancake Day March 2022

Pancake Day at Red Rose

We kicked off the month on the 1st with a Shrove Tuesday celebration. Our residents at Red Rose made lovely pancakes for us all to tuck into. As you can see there were a mixture of chocolatey toppings, and the more traditional lemon and sugar.

Cake at Red Roofs

Residents at Red Roofs came together to create some baked goodies. A lot of fun was had and the end result was well worth the effort of everybody. Look at that lemon drizzle cake!

St Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is always a fun day at our homes. Many of our residents and carers have links to Ireland, so it is the perfect time for them to celebrate their heritage. For everyone, it gives them the chance to have a dress-up, eat some lovely food and get merry. Here are some of the residents looking great in green.

Mother’s Day

Sunday 27th saw Mother’s Day celebrations across all of our homes. Residents at Red Rose were given gifts by the amazing Support Team at the home, while over at Red Roofs carers celebrated with a special service. A collection of hymns were sung, along with some prayers and a couple of minutes silence held to remember loved ones. Each resident, including the gents, received some vibrant daffodils, too.

And at Red Court, lots of residents were spoiled by relatives and carers!

Sun…

There was even time for a bit of sunbathing, as temperatures hit up to 19c. Pauline at Red Court was enjoying the glorious sunshine on our grounds. However, it wasn’t long until the unpredictable English weather gave us something a bit colder…

…and Snow!

But then, the very next week, at the end of the month, we woke up to snow! Who knows what kind of weather April will bring – hopefully not showers.

Ukraine Collection at Red Court

Over the last six weeks, everyone at Red Homes has been shocked at the images and stories broadcast from Ukraine to the rest of the world. With the huge numbers of displaced people continuing to rise, we have been organising collections around our various care homes to help support those in need.

Items collected include: flasks, hot water bottles, protein bars, dry food, sleeping bags, clothing, wet baby wipes, sanitary pads, first aid kits and other toiletries. Our employees, residents and their families wanted to contribute, to help out the adults and children who have had to uproot and abandon their everyday lives in the midst of the ongoing conflict across the country.

To see so many people have to abandon their homes and livelihoods to escape the conflict has inspired us at Red Homes to come together to help where we can.

By collecting the number and variety of items we have managed to accumulate, we are hoping to help lots of families and generations of Ukrainian citizens survive during these troubling times.

Prayer for Ukraine at Red Rose

We also held a prayer day at Red Rose to mark the ongoing war in Ukraine. A prayer was read out to residents. It read:

“Lord God, we hear the news about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Our hearts grieve when there is war and violence in the world. We pray for peace. We pray for grieving families and all those who are scared, especially the old and those with young families. We ask this of international leaders: may they know wisdom, courage and strength in responding.”

All residents took part in hope and support as many staff and families at the home remain deeply affected. “You Will Never Walk Alone” was also sung, as part of the gathering.
