Who can believe that we are already coming towards the end of August 2022?! The year is truly flying by! With that in mind, we thought it was a good idea to let you know what we’ve been up to so far this year. So here is just a little bit of what we’ve been up to in 2022 at Red Homes…
Long Service at Red Court
Pat Andrews at Red Court has been working for Red Home Healthcare for over 25 YEARS! Pat has worked all manner of roles at Red Homes – from laundry assistant, to house keeper and cook – and now currently in the housekeeping department at Red Court. To celebrate her achievements, Pat’s colleagues come together to present her with a bouquet of flowers and presents to enjoy!
Many of the staff have said they would be lost without her charisma, friendship, support and knowledge, and cannot wait to work her with her for many more years to come.
Red Court Deputy Manager wins regional award
In March, we celebrated Red Court’s Deputy Manager, Val Betts winning a regional care award! Val won a very much deserved Nursing & Nurse Associate in Social Care Award at the 2021 Lincolnshire Care Awards. She attended an awards evening, where she was among the celebrated winners within the nursing profession. Additionally, this year is also Val’s 50th year as a qualified nurse, what better way to celebrate with such strong recognition from her peers.
Well done Val, we are very proud of you and your achievements.
Red Rose celebrates high scoring inspection
April saw Red Rose celebrating a positive inspection from Nottinghamshire County Council. Inspectors from the local authority visited and were very impressed with what they saw. So impressed, in fact, that they awarded the highest rating possible, a Band 5. This is a major improvement, as the last inspection saw a Band 4 rating awarded to Red Rose.
The inspectors arrived at Red Rose in February for the visit – and they liked what they saw. Among the comments made by the local authority were that the “care plans were excellent, they included considerations of residents’ preferences regarding care, support and treatment”.
Regarding the standard of care provided by staff, the report found “staff we spoke with to be committed to providing high quality care”, while observing “very positive and caring relationships between residents and staff”. When it came to infection control procedures, too, Red Rose scored an “excellent” rating, with the report stating, “throughout our visit, staff were seen to be following good practice guidelines regarding PPE”.
Royal Message for Teddy
Red Roofs resident and Burmese War veteran, Teddy Hempstead celebrated his 100th birthday in May.
Teddy was awarded the Burma Star, the campaign medal awarded for British forces who served in Burma during World War II. He was sent a special care package from Prince Charles to mark his centenary birthday. The Patron of the Burma Star Memorial Fund sent a letter congratulating Teddy for his service and his 100th birthday, as well as bottle of champagne.
His birthday was further celebrated with a military-themed part, held at Red Roofs on May 4th 2022. Birthday cards poured in for Teddy from the military community and a military choir also provided some backing music on the day.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations across all of our homes
Back in June, celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee were in full swing across the country and in our care homes too. All three homes opened up their doors to visitors, with plenty of tea, cake and food on offer. The weather was fortunately gorgeous too, which helped all to showcase their patriotism in the best way possible.
Keeping cool in the heatwave
It’s been a hot, hot summer! This has proven challenging for us all, never mind our care homes. With a couple of heatwaves, it was critical that our residents remain as comfortable as possible. Of course, this meant it was time to get the paddling pool out, as well as ice lollies to remain extra cool. Residents enjoyed the warmer weather and stayed nice and cool – perfect!
Red Homes on tour
Red Roofs residents were taken on trips to the cinema and a special boat trip across the summer months. Everyone had a fantastic time getting out on the water and seeing the sights. Red Rose staff took residents out to the Newark Beach. Lovely drinks and treats were had, while one residents was taken to her old workplace to reminisce! It’s important that residents are taken on these enjoyable trips where possible – they clearly love going on them.
